An injection-molded plastic kit of a Soviet rocket launcher of the Second World War. It brings together two things that belong to each other: the three-axle GAZ-AAA truck as the carrier and the BM-13-16 launcher, which the soldiers knew by the nickname Katyusha. The model is released by Hobby Boss in 1:35 scale, the scale with the widest choice of Soviet subjects, so it can be combined with figures and accessories of the same scale.
The GAZ-AAA was a three-axle truck driven through its two rear axles, derived from an American design built under license and produced in Gorky. It was one of the most numerous Soviet vehicles of the war and served as the chassis for a whole range of special bodies. The BM-13-16 launcher carried sixteen guide rails for 132 mm caliber rockets. A salvo was away within a few seconds, and the battery then changed position at once, because the smoke trail of the launch gave its location away. Mounting the launcher on the GAZ-AAA solved the shortage of other suitable chassis.
The most sensitive parts are the frame and the axle suspension: assemble them on a flat surface so that the model ends up standing on all its wheels. Build the launch rails exactly according to the instructions, as any misalignment shows at once on the finished model. Leave the wheels unglued until after spraying, as they are easier to mask that way. Soviet green comes alive if you lighten it on the upper surfaces and add dust pigments on the fenders and in the wheel wells.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
