An injection-molded plastic kit of the M4A3E8 Sherman tank in the guise of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) in 1:35 scale from Asuka (formerly Tasca). The Sherman earned the nickname Easy Eight from its HVSS spring suspension with wide tracks. This version captures the postwar modifications typical of Japanese service — a larger rear deflector, an external telephone box and a first aid box — and offers several variants of Japanese markings. The model has well-worked HVSS suspension with movable elements and a faithfully shaped canvas cover for the gun mantlet. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The M4A3E8 Easy Eight was one of the most advanced versions of the famous American Sherman medium tank of the end of the Second World War, with HVSS spring suspension and wider tracks for better ride qualities. After the war the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force took over a number of Shermans and operated them in the first postwar decades. It was in exactly this guise that the tank appeared in many Japanese films, where it faced giant monsters, and so it is known not only among modelers but also among fans of classic Japanese cinema.
Assemble and fit the HVSS running gear and the tracks before you close up the hull, and the canvas mantlet cover will call for careful cleanup. Glue the tiny parts with liquid cement for plastic applied drop by drop. Spray the model with a primer, lay down the uniform postwar green with an airbrush and then work with washes and pigments for a dust and mud patina.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
