Add-on kit of an engineering device in 1:35 scale from MiniArt. The set models the KMT-9 roller mine clearing device, that is the equipment mounted on the nose of a tank, and not the vehicle itself. A base model of a tank is not part of the package and has to be bought separately.
The KMT series roller devices are of Soviet design and serve to create a lane through a minefield for advancing vehicles. The principle is mechanical: assemblies of heavy steel discs roll ahead of the vehicle and their pressure sets off pressure-fuzed mines in the path of the tracks, so the vehicle passes along a cleared trail. The device is mounted on the front plate of the hull, is heavy and markedly changes both the behavior of the vehicle and its silhouette. Roller devices are designed to allow quick release, so that a vehicle can carry on without them.
The set holds a great many repeating parts, so sort them out in advance and build in units rather than piece by piece. Assemble the rollers on a flat surface and watch the alignment, otherwise the whole device will not sit straight on the model. Glue the support arm only after a dry fit on the particular model you want to attach it to. For painting, start from the base shade of the vehicle and add heavier weathering than the tank itself carries: the contact surfaces of the rollers are worn down to bare metal, while the rest holds mud, dust and abrasion. Apply the pigments in layers and let them dry.
The set is an accessory to a model of a vehicle, not a stand-alone kit of a tank. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; paints, glue and the base model are not included in the package.
