An injection-molded plastic kit of the Chinese YW-531B tracked armored personnel carrier (army designation Type 63-2) in 1:35 scale from Bronco. According to the manufacturer the box contains broken-up plastic and photo-etched parts. The model captures a later form of the well-known family of Chinese carriers.
The Type 63 (factory designation YW531) is a Chinese tracked armored personnel carrier which entered service at the end of the 1960s and was the first armored vehicle designed in China without Soviet help. It is simple in design and its concept matches the carriers of its day. Thousands were built and they were used in a number of conflicts. The YW-531B version of the 1980s brought modified roof hatches and other small changes.
Use liquid cement for plastic and work in subassemblies. Finish the running gear before closing the hull. Bond the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush; for Chinese equipment a uniform green or sand finish works well, brought to life by picking out the edges, a wash in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud effects on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
