This set from the Polish brand Master contains turned metal yardarms in six lengths, specifically 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 mm, always two pieces of each length. There are therefore twelve parts in the package in all. It is a universal accessory, not tied to one particular ship, but serving as building material for masts, signal yards and antenna booms on models in 1:350 scale. It is not a ship kit.
A yardarm is a horizontal spar fixed across a mast. On modern warships it carries above all signal halyards, flag halyards and antenna fittings; on older vessels also the spars of a sail plan. On a model it is one of the elements that most affect the silhouette of the upper works, and at the same time one of the most fragile parts. Plastic yardarms from a mold tend to be bent, have a visible parting line and give way when the rigging is tensioned.
Choose the yardarm according to the width of the particular place and shorten any excess with a file, not with nippers, so that the end does not flatten. Drill a through hole in the mast and pass the yardarm through it until the projection is the same on both sides. Only then fix it with a drop of super glue, ideally gel, which will not run down the mast. A metal yardarm has the substantial advantage over plastic that tensioned rigging of thread or drawn stick will not bend it. Degrease the metal with spirit before painting and apply a primer for metal, otherwise the finish will flake off at the knot when a line is tightened.
This is an accessory for building a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
