A kit of the Soviet Shch class submarine, the earliest series III, in 1:350 scale. A small model with fine detail on the superstructure for collectors of naval subjects.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Soviet Shch class submarines were among the most numerous medium submarines of their navy. They were built from the beginning of the 1930s in several successive series and served in the Baltic and the Black Sea, in the north and in the Pacific; many of them saw action in the Second World War. They were diesel-electric boats, deliberately simple and robust in construction so that they could be produced in large numbers. Besides bow and stern torpedo tubes they also carried light gun armament on deck. Series III is the earliest form of the whole line and differs from the later series in the details of the superstructure.
The kit in 1:350 scale is small, and a substantial part of the detail is hidden in the fine parts of the superstructure, so have a sharp blade, tweezers and good light ready. Cut the parts a little away from the sprue and sand the rest down, so that you do not weaken the edge. Dry-fit the joints and glue in small steps, so that the long hull does not end up twisted.
A submarine hull is usually divided into a darker upper part and a different lower part below the waterline; form the dividing line with masking tape applied before spraying. The deck gratings and the drainage openings will stand out with a dark wash, which draws itself into them. The finished model looks good on a stand as well as set into a water scene.
For modelers with experience of small scales and for collectors of Soviet naval subjects. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
