This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Eduard depicts the Japanese two-seat training version of the famous carrier fighter Zero – the Mitsubishi A6M2-K. It is a Weekend edition, that is a simplified package without photo-etched parts and masking templates; it contains plastic parts, clear parts for the glazing and decals. The number of parts and the marking options are listed in the instructions.
The A6M2-K was created as a two-seat training conversion of the A6M2 Zero Type 21 fighter for training pilots of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. A second, instructor's seat was inserted behind the original cockpit and the machine had reduced armament. It was powered by the Nakajima Sakae radial engine, the same as the combat Zero. In the closing stages of the Second World War some of these training machines were also committed to kamikaze attacks.
Finish and paint both cockpits and the wheel wells before closing the fuselage. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic and glue the clear parts with a cement for canopies. Apply a primer before airbrushing. Japanese training schemes (often with a bold orange finish) come alive nicely with the panel lines picked out with a wash and discreet weathering of the exhaust streaks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
