Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded kit of the two-seat version of the Starfighter in 1:48 scale. The letter D in the designation belongs to the training version with a tandem cockpit for two pilots under a lengthened canopy. The Canadian Starfighters are among the most rewarding subjects in the whole family, from polished metal to the later camouflage.
The Starfighter was created as a lightweight supersonic aircraft with a short trapezoidal wing of very thin section and a long, slender fuselage that housed a powerful J79 series turbojet. The Royal Canadian Air Force introduced the type at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, and its aircraft served mainly with the forces stationed in Europe, where they flew strike and reconnaissance missions. The two-seat version allowed pilots to convert onto an aircraft notorious for its high landing speed and its demands on precise flying.
On the two-seat cockpit it pays to work up both stations, because they are clearly visible under the large canopy; the instrument panels come out well after dry-brushing and a drop of gloss varnish on the dials. Do not sand the sharp wing leading edges more than necessary, as they lose their shape once painted. The model tends to be tail-heavy, so test beforehand whether it will rest on its nose gear and add weight in the nose if needed.
The model comes unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and accessories are not included.
