Injection-molded plastic kit of the Grumman E-2C Hawkeye 2000 carrier-based early warning and control aircraft in 1:48 scale from Kinetic. The dominant feature of the model is the large saucer radar (rotodome) above the fuselage, which can be built to rotate. The kit further offers a detailed cockpit, optionally folded carrier wings, finely engraved panel lines and the modernized eight-blade NP2000 propeller.
The E-2 Hawkeye is a twin-engine turboprop carrier-based airborne early warning and control aircraft (AEW&C), the airborne eye and brain of a US Navy carrier group. Above the fuselage it carries the characteristic rotating saucer radar, which watches the airspace and the surface and directs friendly aircraft. The designation 2000 refers to the modernized E-2C variant with newer avionics and improved radar and communication equipment.
Finish and paint the roomy cockpit before you close the fuselage. Mask the flight deck glazing and paint it separately. Decide whether you will leave the rotodome free to rotate and whether you will build the wings spread or in the folded carrier position. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement and apply primer before painting. The typical gray naval finish and the prominent markings come out best when sprayed with an airbrush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
