About product

The Raptor and its cockpit

The YF-22 prototype first flew in 1990, the production F-22A seven years later, and the aircraft entered line service with the US Air Force in 2005. It combines the stealth shaping of the airframe with performance that allows supersonic flight without afterburner, and with nozzles that vector the thrust in the vertical plane. The armament disappears into internal bays so that the surface stays smooth. The set is designed for the Hasegawa kit.

Screens instead of needles

The cockpit of a modern fighter differs at first glance from machines with dial instruments. The front panel is filled with color screens, above them sits the head-up display, and the most important controls lie on the control stick and the throttle, so the hands stay in place. The sheet carries that appearance into scale: the displays have their content printed, the rows of buttons around the edges are raised, and the ejection seat gets its harness and the pull handle above the headrest.

Setting into the parts

The tub and its walls have to be clean and degreased. A thin coat of paint underneath the elements does no harm, but it must be fully cured, or the layer beneath them will soften. It is best to work from the top down so that finished surfaces do not get in the way, and to press the edges home with a wooden toothpick. Everything is matched to the castings of the manufacturer named in the product name.

What stays visible

A canopy without a dividing frame leaves the whole space open along its full length, and even what lies deep down by the floor is reflected in it. That is exactly why more work on the interior pays off on this type than on machines with heavily framed glazing.

FAQ

The gloss imitates the glass of the screens. On a modern machine it is the main thing that sets them apart from the matte panel around them, so overspraying the glossy areas with a matte clear is not advised.

Yes. The elements are set one at a time and call for no metalwork. The most demanding part is patience with the small rows of buttons, where fine-tipped tweezers and good light help.

The package holds the flat elements for the seat, that is, the harness and the upholstery. The body of the seat itself comes from the kit, and the sheet only supplies its surfaces.

For the Hasegawa kit, as the product name states.
