A main landing gear bay for the Hawker Hurricane Mk.II 1:48 refines the area in the wing that is clearly visible on a machine on the ground. The aircraft kit is not part of the delivery.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Hurricane retracted its main landing gear inwards toward the fuselage, and the wing is left with prominent bays that are visible on a parked machine. That is exactly where a plastic kit tends to be at its thinnest: the bay is shallow, without structure and without piping. This product refines that area, but it does not include the aircraft itself.
A modeler who displays their work on its landing gear cannot avoid the bays – the eye looks for them automatically. The depth of the bay, the ribs and a suggestion of the installations decide whether the finished piece looks like a toy or like a scaled-down machine. On British aircraft the inside is also often a different shade from the surrounding skin, which brings the whole area out even more.
The Mk.II versions made up the largest part of Hurricane production. They served from the Battle of Britain through the Mediterranean and the Soviet Union to Burma, flew in fighter and attack roles and some of them spent their careers on the decks of ships. The rugged structure of welded tubes with a fabric covering was easy to repair in the field, which lengthened the life of the type.
Paint the bays lighter than you might think – a deep bay creates its own shadows and too dark a shade then swallows all the structure. The set comes without a surface finish and the aircraft model is not part of it. Add paints and chemicals as you are used to.
