Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese aircraft carrier Shinano in 1:700 scale from Tamiya, from the Waterline Series. The model captures the hull at waterline level, the massive armored flight deck and the characteristic island superstructure. A nameplate and a stand for display are usually included.
The Shinano came about by converting the partly built hull of the third battleship of the Yamato class into an aircraft carrier. Thanks to her huge dimensions she was the largest aircraft carrier built during the Second World War, and she held that distinction long afterwards. The life of the ship was short: only a few days after entering service at the end of 1944 she was sunk by an American submarine. Her heavily armored flight deck was meant to let her operate as a supply and repair base for other carriers as well.
On a waterline model it pays to join the hull and the deck cleanly and to set the wooden and steel areas of the deck apart. An airbrush works well for the base shades, and a thin wash will bring out the panel lines. Fine railings and booms can be added with a photo-etched set (not included in the package). You can display the model on the supplied nameplate or set it into a diorama with a water surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
