The Yamato in 1:350 scale is a plastic kit of the Japanese battleship from the maker Border Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the heaviest battleship ever built. In 1:350 scale what arises is a sizable display piece: the length of the hull here allows the division of the deck, the superstructure and the gun turrets to be rendered without the simplification that smaller scales force. The maker is Border Model.
Yamato was the flagship of the Imperial Japanese Navy and together with her sister ship Musashi she carried the most powerful naval gunnery in history: a main battery of 460 mm in three turrets. She entered service shortly after the outbreak of the war in the Pacific and spent a large part of her career as a reserve force of the fleet. The last voyage ended in April 1945, when carrier aircraft sank her. The silhouette with its massive pagoda superstructure is among the most easily recognized in all naval modeling.
On large ship models proceeding in sections proves itself: first finish and paint the decks, and only then fit the small superstructure parts, which would suffer during further handling. Wooden surfaces come to life after a fine emphasis of the seams, while steel surfaces appreciate a unifying filter and a discreet emphasis of the welds. The finished model calls for a stand or a display case, because the thin masts and booms are the most sensitive to the touch.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
