The real subject

The OV-10D form came about for the Marine Corps as an answer to the need to work after dark. A reconnaissance sensor went into the front of the machine and with it a lengthened nose, which gives the silhouette of the aircraft away at once. Later changes under the designation with a plus brought further work on the equipment. For a modeler it is a variant that differs from the early form at first glance, and a scene around it therefore looks different from one with older machines.

Painting tips

A later deployment also means a different character of flight gear, so look for a color reference in photographs from the matching period, not in shots from the first years of the type's service. A coverall will take light fading on the shoulders and the back. Keep the leather parts and the gloves darker and warmer. If you place a figure in the shadow under the wing, tone the whole paint job down, otherwise it will stand out from the scene.
