1:48 Spitfire Mk. IX (open-closed) – clear cockpit glazing for the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX in a version for a closed as well as an open canopy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The dual version is the main thing about this item: the open-closed designation in the name says that the part is prepared both for a closed canopy and for one slid back. The modeler therefore does not have to decide in advance and can display the cockpit of their 1:48 Spitfire open.
The Mk.IX came about in 1942 as a quick answer to the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190, which had gained the upper hand over the English Channel. A two-stage supercharged Merlin was installed in the airframe of the earlier version, which gave the aircraft its performance back at high altitude. The forms differed according to the altitude band in which the machine was to operate, and the Mk.IX ended up as the most numerous Spitfire version of all, deployed from western Europe to the Mediterranean.
The closed and the open position call for a different fit, so think the order of the steps through before you start cutting. The edges are trued with short strokes and tried on the fuselage as you go. The transparency comes alive with a thin coat of gloss varnish applied before the frames are masked. It is a good idea to roughen the inner edge lightly before gluing.
The delivery covers the canopy glazing alone, without the model of the aircraft and without modeling chemicals.
