The photo-etched parts replace plastic components that are necessarily too thick in a small scale, and they add features that a mold cannot capture. The maker is Voyager Model, a brand that specializes in precisely these photo-etched and metal accessories for military vehicles.
The Sturmtiger, in full the Sturmmörser Tiger, was a German self-propelled vehicle of the Second World War built on the chassis of the Tiger I heavy tank. Instead of a turret it carried a large-caliber rocket launcher in the front wall of a casemate, intended to destroy fortified objects in built-up areas. The vehicle came about by converting Tiger hulls and was built in small numbers only. Its characteristic features are the tall casemate with its thick frontal armor, a small crane at the rear and a loading hatch for the heavy ammunition.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with pliers, as the edges would deform. Make the bends in an etch bender or over a metal ruler. Glue the etch with superglue; on larger surfaces a slower gel version is better, as it allows a part to be adjusted. Degrease the metal before painting and prime it, or the paint will peel. On a vehicle of this type it pays to assemble and paint the running gear before the hull is closed up, and to add dust pigments and mud effects at the end.
