A kit of the British destroyer HMS Lance in her state of 1941, in 1:700 scale from the maker Flyhawk. It is the Deluxe Edition finish: compared with the basic version of the same craft it adds, according to the manufacturer, two photo-etched frets, chiefly for the railings and the boat davits, and metal barrels. The injection-molded parts are among the finest made in this scale.
The Lance was an L class destroyer of the Royal Navy, launched in 1940. At the end of 1941 she was assigned to Force K operating from Malta, whose task was to raid Axis supply convoys heading for North Africa. In November 1941 she set out with Force K against a convoy reported between Taranto and Benghazi, and in December she took part in the rescue of men after the force ran into a new Italian minefield. In April 1942 bombs hit her in dock at Malta during air raids; the damage was so great that she was written off as a total loss, and in 1944 she went for scrap.
The photo-etched parts are very fine in this scale - bend them over a metal edge, glue them with cyanoacrylate glue in the smallest possible quantity and reckon with the railings being installed only after the hull has been painted. Metal barrels need a primer for metal. British naval schemes live on precise edges, so cut the masking tape with a sharp knife and unify the hull with a primer before painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
