An injection-molded plastic kit of the light aircraft carrier Ryujo from the maker Fujimi. The model captures the ship as she was after her first refit and offers finely engraved detail; the package also contains photo-etched metal parts that raise the small elements of the superstructure. The 1:700 scale is the collector's standard for warships.
Ryujo was a Japanese light aircraft carrier commissioned at the start of the 1930s. She was built in an effort to get around the international tonnage limits of the day, which showed in her slender and relatively tall silhouette. She carried fighters and attack aircraft and was lost in 1942 in one of the battles for the Solomon Islands.
Assemble the hull and the flight deck first, then fill and clean up the seams. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and work with a sharp knife and tweezers. Apply the steel surfaces and the deck with an airbrush and accentuate the fine lines with a panel wash. Railings and other small items hold their shape better once a coat of primer has been sprayed on.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories beyond the photo-etched parts included are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
