1:700 PLA Navy type 002 Aircraft Carrier

The real subject

The Type 002 aircraft carrier belongs to the newer generation of surface units of the Chinese PLA Navy. Aircraft take off from it over an inclined ramp on the bow rather than from a catapult, a solution you recognize at a glance by the raised forward part of the flight deck. The island with its superstructure and masts stands to starboard and the rest of the deck is left clear for flight operations.

What the set contains

It is a plastic kit in 1:700 scale, the scale in which most warship models are collected. The form of the hull, the number of parts and the aircraft and accessories enclosed are given in the instructions for the kit.

Building and painting tips

• paint the deck separately from the hull; it saves complicated masking
• apply the deck markings only over a dry base shade
• glue the small parts of the superstructure with tweezers and a small amount of super glue
• photo-etched railings and gratings are sold separately and lift the model noticeably
• the model looks good on a sea surface made from modeling paste and varnish

For collectors of modern warships and for modelers who enjoy fine work and large ships at a sensible size for a display case. Paints, glue and photo-etched accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise; the kit is supplied unassembled.
