The Type 072A is the latest development branch of the Chinese series of tank landing ships. The basic principle stayed the same as on its predecessors: the ship runs its bow onto the shore, opens the bow doors and releases vehicles and troops straight onto the beach down a folding ramp. The cargo deck runs through a substantial part of the hull, so the ship can carry armored vehicles, trucks and supplies. Compared with the older types a helicopter deck was added aft, which also allows vertical replenishment and evacuation. Vessels of this type form the backbone of amphibious transport capacity and are seen on exercises and humanitarian missions as well.
The most conspicuous feature is the long flat cargo deck and the bow section with its doors. Dry-fit the doors before you fix them, because their position decides the look of the whole bow. Spray the hull with an airbrush and set out the boundary between the underwater and the above-water part with masking tape so that the edge stays crisp. Set the deck apart from the sides with a different shade. Add the railings, davits and antennas only after painting, because they are the most fragile parts of the model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
