An injection-molded plastic kit of the third unit of the American Wasp class in 1:700 scale. Hobby Boss has developed this range of amphibious assault ships consistently, so it can be built as part of a whole collection. The real ship is among the biggest vessels of its kind, so even in the small 1:700 scale the result is a long model with a prominent through flight deck.
The USS Kearsarge entered service in 1993 and, unlike her sister ships operating in the Pacific, she belongs to the units on the Atlantic coast. Besides the amphibious tasks of the United States Marine Corps she has repeatedly taken part in humanitarian operations and evacuations, for which large ships with a flight deck, hospital facilities and a floodable well deck are ideally suited. The name follows on from the famous sailing sloop of the American Civil War.
The flight deck is the key to a convincing model. Even the surface out with a base color first, and only then deal with the markings and the landing spots, ideally through masks. The hull and the superstructure keep a uniform gray shade, so you will liven the model up mainly with light shading of the panel lines and a slightly darker deck. Paint the small equipment separately and glue it on only after the deck is finished.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
