An injection-molded plastic kit model of the German destroyer Z 38 of the Narvik class (Type 1936 A, Mob) in 1:700 scale from Revell. It is a model in the waterline version (the hull down to the waterline), complemented by a deck with gun turrets, superstructures, masts and fine elements of the armament. The markings supplied allow several ships of this class to be built.
The destroyers of Type 1936 A, designated by the Allies as the Narvik class, were built by German shipyards in Bremen and Kiel between 1940 and 1943. For their time these were unusually large vessels with a hull length of over 120 meters. The main armament consisted of 150 mm guns complemented by antiaircraft weapons and torpedo tube mounts. Z 38 herself took part, among other things, in escorting and protecting the battleship Tirpitz in Norwegian waters.
The small 1:700 scale rewards careful cleaning up of the parts and thin coats of paint. The hull in the waterline version can be set on a display stand or placed in a diorama with a water surface. The finest elements, such as railings, masts and antennas, will show to advantage once photo-etched parts are added, if you obtain them separately. Apply the camouflage with an airbrush in the shades of German gray camouflage, and bring out the panel lines and the detail with a fine wash and the dry brush technique.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
