This box refers to the machine connected with the name of the airman Petr Siroky and with the aerobatic competition in Berlin in 1936; the difference from the other releases of the type lies above all in the markings. It is a short-run injection-molded kit, that is, a model supplied unassembled and unpainted that calls for cleaning up the parts before the build.
The Avia Ba.122 was one of the single-seat aerobatic biplanes that appeared in Czechoslovakia in the middle of the 1930s on the basis of the B-122 series. The design relied on a strong airframe, good handling and tolerance of high load factors — that is, on the qualities that competition aerobatics of the time demanded. Czechoslovak pilots took part in international events with this type, among them the aerobatic competition held in Berlin in 1936. Further details of that participation and its results are not stated here.
The key place in the build is the upper wing: prepare a simple jig from strips and glue only after a dry test, otherwise the airframe twists and you will not straighten it again. Fit the struts one by one and let them set before you load them. Short-run moldings have thicker sprue gates, so count on cutting and sanding the mating surfaces. The glazing of the cockpit windscreen is small but visible — use a glue for canopies. For glossy sporting finishes a smooth base is essential: primer, fine polishing, thin coats of paint and a gloss coat under the decals. Add the bracing wires only after painting, from stretched sprue or from thin filament.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
