A kit of the German Gotha Go 242A-1 transport glider in 1:72 scale. A twin-boom machine with a hinged rear fuselage designed to carry cargo.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Gotha Go 242 was a German transport glider of the Second World War. A short fuselage pod carried the cargo hold, the tail surfaces were set back on a pair of booms and the whole machine got into the air on tow behind a powered aircraft. The rear part of the fuselage could be swung open, so cargo was loaded straight from behind without lengthy transfers. The takeoff wheels were jettisoned after takeoff and the glider came down on skids, which allowed landings on unprepared ground. The A-1 version was used to carry cargo.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The twin-boom layout and the angular fuselage offer clear surfaces on which careful assembly and the finish that follows will show to advantage.
First dry-fit the position of both tail booms against the wing, because the overall impression of the finished model rests on their symmetry. Let the assembly cure properly before you start sanding. The glider has large uninterrupted surfaces on which every unevenness shows, so fill and sand the joints with care and apply the paint in thin coats.
The kit suits a modeler interested in transport and support machines of the Second World War, that is in equipment outside the usual run of fighters and bombers. The large glider is also a rewarding basis for a diorama with cargo and a crew.
The box contains the kit only. Paints, glue and figures are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
