The Heinkel He 162 came about in the autumn of 1944 in desperate haste. The requirement was to build a simple jet fighter from available materials, so it had a wooden nose and wing and a single engine set on top of its spine. Under 90 days passed from the requirement to the first flight. The machine got an ejection seat, rare equipment for that time, and reached the units only in the last weeks of the war. The designation Spatz, meaning sparrow, was used by the maker itself.
The cockpit of the He 162 is simple, but it sits directly under a large hinged canopy and almost everything in it is visible, including the mechanism of the seat. That makes it a treacherous subject: fewer parts mean that each single one is under closer scrutiny. An unfinished dial or an unevenly painted frame draws far more attention here than in the deep cockpit of a bomber. A printed sheet holds the same quality across its whole area and avoids exactly this risk.
To let the detail show, it is worth finishing the model with the canopy open and possibly adding a pilot figure. The thin carrier does not lift the canopy or stop it seating, so the choice stays open until the end of the build. The package holds the sheet only, not a kit.
