A replacement clear cockpit canopy for a model of the P-47D Thunderbolt in the razorback configuration, 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-47D Thunderbolt was among the heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War. The razorback designation belongs to the earlier batches, on which the fuselage spine behind the cockpit ran smoothly on to the fin and the pilot sat under a sliding, heavily framed canopy. Later machines received a cut-down spine and a bubble canopy, so the two shapes of the aircraft differ at first glance precisely in the shape of the section behind the cockpit. For the build this means that a razorback canopy does not fit a later fuselage and the other way round.
This is a replacement cockpit canopy for a model in 1:72 scale. A clear part from an accessory set is welcome where you want to have the cockpit open and show the equipment inside, where the original part is scratched, or where its shape does not suit you. It pays to offer it up to the fuselage before the build and compare the width and the length with your kit.
Cut the canopy out with a sharp blade or with plastic shears, leaving enough margin, then true the edge by sanding on fine paper and polish it at the end. Cyanoacrylate glue fogs clear material, so use glue intended for clear parts. Mask the frames first and spray the paint in thin coats so that the tape does not let paint bleed under it. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has dried, not only after several days, otherwise the edge tears and the paint peels off.
The model, paints, masks and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
