A set of engine and engine cowling in 1:72 scale for a model of the carrier-borne SBD-2/3 Dauntless dive bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was an American carrier-borne dive bomber of the Second World War with a radial engine. The SBD-2 and SBD-3 versions belonged to the early production batches that bore the main weight of the fighting in the first years of the war in the Pacific. Striking features of the type are the perforated dive brakes on the trailing edge of the wing and the substantial engine cowling.
A replacement engine and engine cowling for an SBD-2/3 model in 1:72 scale. The engine is rendered down to the individual cylinders and the cowling has a thinner wall than the plastic part from the kit, so the intake opening looks more faithful. The front of the fuselage is visible on a model from every angle, which is where the difference against the parts from the kit shows most. The range of parts and their allocation is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary modeling cement for plastic has no effect on them. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder flat. Support the thin-walled cowling with a finger from the inside while sanding, or it may crack. Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent before painting and let them dry. The specific preparation procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Seat the engine dry and check how deep it sits in the cowling, and only then fix the joint.
The package contains only the parts of this set, that is the engine and the engine cowling. The model, the paints and the glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
