A dark gray Gunze Acrysion acrylic, variant one. An all-round dark gray for decks, landing gear, weapons and for shading in place of a hard black.

Few areas on a model take a pure black. In a reduced scale it looks hard and swallows all the detail the builder laboriously engraved. A dark gray does what black ought to do, except that it keeps the rivets, panel lines and edges legible.
The shade finds use on ship decks and superstructures, in landing gear bays, on gun mounts and barrel covers, on the gear of soldiers and on the undersides of aircraft, where an impression of shadow is meant to arise. In the make-up of the line it stands as a pair with a second dark gray so that the builder can choose between a warmer and a cooler tone.
Working with it is the same as with the rest of the line: it is applied with an airbrush, the consistency is adjusted with water or with Acrysion Thinner and the tools used are flushed with Acrysion Tool Cleaner. The contents of the bottle belong stirred before spraying, otherwise the shade drifts apart between individual containers.
In a two-layer procedure the gray proves itself as the first spray, over which the base color is then applied from a height. The gray stays showing through in the shadows and the model gains a depth that an even uniform spray would never give. The same trick works inside cockpits and fighting compartments as well.
