CL107 Flaxen Base Color Gloss

The color

Flaxen is a light warm tone between cream and fair, named after flax. It is neither a pure yellow nor a beige: it has a yellowish core but is softened, so on a model it comes across gently and does not shout. Its name lists it as a base shade with a gloss surface, that is as a paint applied as the first covered layer, on which further tones only then rest. The paint belongs to the CL range of the brand Gunze Mr.Color and is listed under the designation CL107.

Where it is useful

On the fair hair of figures, on light wood, straw and canvas, on the light leather of harnesses and bags, and also as a base layer under the shading and glazes with which the final shade is only then built up. A gloss surface is an advantage for that work in two respects: a glaze slides over it and can be feathered into a soft transition, and a decal will not form a silvery edge on it. The final degree of sheen is then set by clear coating.

How to apply the paint

• Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom.
• Thin it with the thinner of the same range and apply thin coats, as light warm tones are easily flooded.
• On a dark base reckon with more coats or with a light base color.
• The instructions on the packaging give the procedure for particular use within the manufacturer's system.
• Let the paint dry through before masking, as a fresh film peels off with the tape.
