Sixteen acrylic shades for figures from the American Civil War. It covers the blue of the Union, the gray and brownish yellow of the Confederacy, and flesh and equipment too.

The civil war in North America ran from 1861 to 1865 and for a painter of figures it is both straightforward and treacherous at once. Both sides had a prescribed uniform color, but reality kept to the regulation only in part. Federal regiments took the field in a dark blue blouse with lighter trousers, Southern units were meant to have gray, but in the shortages of war the home-dyed shade called butternut prevailed, that is the brownish yellow obtained from walnut husks. It is exactly this breakdown of the prescribed color scheme that is the most interesting thing on a diorama from the campaign.
According to the name there are sixteen bottles. The composition follows the building of a whole figure, so besides the uniform tones it also contains flesh shades, brown tones for the leather of boots and straps, metal accessories and subdued colors for canvas and blankets. It is a water-based acrylic that dries to matte, so no glossy reflection spoiling the small details arises in photographs.
The wool cloth of a uniform looks more believable if you play the base tone about a little: lighten one spot, deepen another, so that the regiment does not look freshly issued. Stitched seams and buttons deserve the thinnest brush and a steady hand, because it is they that decide whether a figure reads at first glance in a display case.
The earthy tones from the set will also serve on the equipment and the surroundings of a figure: canvas packs, wooden stocks, leather satchels or the soil on a base. One palette thus covers a whole scene including the terrain, without your having to buy further bottles.
