About product

Vallejo German cam. Black Brown RLM61 - acrylic modeling paint, 17 ml

This product is a modeling paint, not a kit. The shade belongs to the Vallejo Model Color range - flat, water-thinnable acrylic paints supplied in a 17 ml bottle with a dropper. Model Color has a high pigment concentration and a thicker consistency, because it is developed above all for brush application. For an airbrush you therefore have to thin it first - with water or Vallejo thinner. Do not confuse it with the Model Air range, which is thinner and ready to spray straight from the bottle.

The RLM 61 shade

RLM is the system of shades of the German Reich Air Ministry (Reichsluftfahrtministerium). RLM 61 (Dunkelbraun, dark brown) is a dark brown verging on black. It was a component of the early German camouflage schemes introduced in the mid 1930s: the three-tone splinter pattern of RLM 61 / RLM 62 / RLM 63 on the upper surfaces with a light underside. You will therefore use it mainly on prewar machines, bombers and aircraft from the beginning of the Second World War.

Use

  • With a brush straight from the bottle; for an airbrush thin it with water or Vallejo thinner.
  • Shake the bottle thoroughly before every use - the pigment settles at the bottom.
  • Lay it on in thin coats on a degreased, ideally primed surface; two thin coats cover better and more cleanly than one thick one.
  • The surface is flat - before decals, spray a gloss varnish over it and knock it back to flat again at the end.
  • The dropper doses drop by drop, so ratios are easy to measure when mixing and lightening the shade.

Who the paint is for

For modelers who build German aircraft of the prewar and early war period and need a dark brown that matches the era. Thanks to its depth it suits uses beyond aircraft camouflage as well - on wood, leather, strapping and landing gear, or as a dark base for shading.

Safety: ensure sufficient ventilation and protect your airways while airbrushing. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

It is the Model Color range, that is, a thicker paint meant primarily for the brush. For an airbrush you have to thin it with water or Vallejo thinner. Model Air is a different range - that one sprays straight without thinning.

It is the dark brown component of the early German aircraft camouflage (the RLM 61 / 62 / 63 scheme) of the prewar period and the beginning of the Second World War, typically on the upper surfaces of bombers.

It is a water-thinnable acrylic - it thins with water or Vallejo thinner. Dried paint is tough, so clean the brushes and the airbrush right after work, while the paint is still wet.

It is not. It is only one bottle of paint with a volume of 17 ml. A model, glue and other paints are not included.
