The R-55 guided missile in 1:72 is a printed stores accessory for models of Soviet fighters and interceptors. An airplane model it is not.
Responsibility details are not available.
An add-on armament set in 1:72 scale from the Russian manufacturer Temp Models, printed from photopolymer. The contents are a Soviet air-to-air guided missile that the manufacturer lists under the designation R-55. The set is meant to be hung under a finished model and does not make up an aircraft model itself.
The R-55 came out of the family of older Soviet air-to-air missiles, in which the guidance system that rode the radar beam was replaced with a homing seeker taken over from a newer generation of missiles. The result was a short-range weapon carried by the interceptors and fighters of the 1960s and 1970s. It was built in versions with differing seekers, so the designation on its own does not determine the method of guidance.
The parts are printed from photopolymer, so thin print supports are left on them. Cut them away with a sharp scalpel or photo-etch nippers and sand the pad they leave with fine abrasive paper. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is with super glue, because polystyrene cement has no effect on this material. Lay down a filler primer before painting; it will at the same time reveal any remains of the supports. Sanding is best done wet and with respiratory protection.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
