A resin R-98MR air-to-air missile in 1:48 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. The set is printed in resin, so the seeker head and the stabilizing surfaces carry detail that could not be pressed into a plastic mold. It is neither an aircraft model nor a part of one, but a separate piece of armament that you hang under your own kit.
The R-98M is the improved version of a Soviet medium-range missile carried by interceptors tasked with catching bombers and reconnaissance machines. The letters MR in the designation stand for semi-active radar guidance: the missile does not transmit itself, but follows the reflection of the signal with which the radar of the parent aircraft illuminates the target. The pilot therefore had to hold the target in his sights right up to the hit. It was precisely because of this that the missiles were launched in a pair with the infrared version, which works independently and cannot be jammed the same way.
Cut the print supports off as close to the part as you can and level the remains with fine abrasive paper, wet. Work with respiratory protection; resin dust does not belong in your lungs. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting, so that the paint holds better. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Rather warm the thin surfaces of the control fins before bending them; cold resin cracks.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
