A resin landing gear wheel set for a model of the MiG-23 fighter in the MLD version, in 1:72 scale, from the Russian brand Temp Models. The resin print renders both the tread pattern and the shape of the rim without the mold seam that runs down the middle of a plastic wheel. It is not an aircraft kit but replacement parts.
The MiG-23 is a single-engine fighter with variable-geometry wings, in which the main gear legs retract inward into the fuselage by an intricate linkage. The MLD version is a late stage of development with a reworked airframe and better handling. The landing gear was always heavily loaded in this family, because the aircraft took off at a high weight, and so the wheels are worth attention on a model too.
Cut the print supports away with a scalpel and level the seating face so that the wheel sits square to the leg. Wash the resin in lukewarm soapy water before painting. Spray the tire a very dark gray and the rim separately, following the real subject. A faint layer of dust along the bottom of the tread gives the wheel its weight.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
