Under number thirty-four the Hobby Color range offers a soft yellow with a creamy cast, a shade considerably quieter than a signal yellow. One pot holds ten milliliters of acrylic paint that can be thinned with water.
Cream tones have specific roles on a model. They appear on the walls of cockpits and interiors of older aircraft, on fabric covering, on the light stripes of quick recognition markings, on ceramic objects in a diorama and as a base for lightening darker sand areas. They also serve well when lightening mixes, because they bring neither a green nor a pink cast into a palette.
Light shades usually cover less well than dark ones and this one is no exception. It pays to lay a white or gray base coat under it and then to apply two or three fine passes instead of one heavy one. The transitions then do not streak and the area stays smooth.
Stirring before use matters just as much as with dark colors, because the pigments in a cream shade have a different weight and settle unevenly. How much you thin it with water or with the manufacturer's thinner depends on how you apply it. The pot will last a long time if it is closed firmly, and it should only be stored away from frost.
When mixing with other tones, note how quickly the cream takes over. In green it brings an impression of faded sun, in brown a shift toward sand and in red a soft terracotta. It is sensible to prepare a larger amount of a mix at once, because repeating the proportions exactly tends to be difficult.
