IJA Khaki Brown 17ml

Vallejo Model Air IJA Khaki Brown, 17 ml

A covering water-based acrylic paint from the Model Air range. The shade is khaki brown, subdued and slightly grayed, that is the type of tone that is combined in multicolor camouflage schemes with green and earth components. The paint is sprayed straight from the bottle, because the manufacturer has thinned it to a sprayable consistency.

Drying and the timing of coats

• Water-based acrylics dry to the touch quickly, but the full curing of the film takes considerably longer. The difference between a dry and a cured surface is fundamental.
• Apply the next coat only once the previous one stops feeling cool to the touch. A premature pass can lift the coat underneath.
• Lay masking tape down only after a longer rest, ideally after a day. On a fresh film the tape will pull the paint off.
• Warmth and moving air speed the drying up, while high humidity slows it down markedly.
• Drying with a hair dryer or hot air is not a good idea: the surface closes before the water beneath it has evaporated, and the film then goes patchily dull.

Who the paint is for

It suits modelers of ground equipment who spray camouflage schemes made up of several tones and need to judge the timing between coats reliably. It can also be used as a base for later dust effects, because a flat film takes weathering well.
