The GX range stands alongside the ordinary shades as a group of paints with markedly higher gloss and denser coverage. The black from it dries to a hard mirror surface with a gentle shadow effect around edges and engraving, that is, exactly the form the bodies of civilian cars and the tanks of motorcycles need. The bottle is larger than in the basic range and holds eighteen milliliters.
The supplier advises spraying at higher pressure and in a heavier coat, so that the paint flows together on the surface into a continuous area. For the same reason it recommends the thinner in the Leveling version, which slows evaporation and lets the coat smooth itself out. Haste does not pay: let each coat flash off before the next one comes.
GX shades can be mixed with paints of the basic range, so you can mix a gloss tone that is not sold on its own. Stir the contents thoroughly before work.
A gloss black surface shows up every imperfection in the surface beneath it mercilessly. So wet-sand the body first with fine paper and unify it with a filling putty. Scratches that nobody notices on a matte surface appear immediately under gloss, and sanding a finished clear coat back is usually more work than careful preparation.
A mirror surface is usually polished once cured. The procedure runs from a fine sanding sponge through polishing compound to a dry cloth, always with feeling and only where there is no risk of sanding through an edge. Anyone who dares can also use this black as an undercoat beneath opaque metal shades, which gain depth over a dark base.
