A Bright Green for Signal Areas

The shade is one of the fluorescent members of the range, alongside red, yellow, orange and pink. The pigment returns incoming light in a narrow band, so the green looks sharper than an ordinary gloss enamel and in daylight it literally leaps out at you. On a model it suits anywhere an area is meant to be seen from a distance.

Watch the nature of the binder. Even though it may look like an acrylic paint, this is a lacquer range on an organic solvent. It cannot be thinned with water or mixed with water-thinnable paints. The thinner from this range is used, or modeling lacquer thinner, and the work should be done under extraction or in a well-ventilated room.

How to get the most out of it

• Paint the base in a clean white gloss, otherwise the shade darkens and loses its brightness
• Spray several thin coats, since fluorescent pigments cover less well than ordinary ones
• Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly before taking any out, as the pigment settles at the bottom
• Protect the finished area with a varnish, because direct sun gradually takes the brightness away

It finds use on the rescue bands of helicopters, on the high-visibility panels of training aircraft, on the warning stripes of airfield service vehicles and on the bodies of circuit racing cars. In a diorama it suits small details such as vests and markings, where it should be clear that this is a warning element.

The bottle holds ten milliliters and suits an airbrush and a brush alike. After work the tools are cleaned with the same thinner the paint was thinned with.
