A deep gloss blue from the Mr. Color lacquer range in a ten-milliliter bottle. A basic mixing shade for aerobatic aircraft, racing cars and bold color markings, not a muted aircraft camouflage blue.

This shade belongs among the pure basic colors of the whole palette. It is not a derived military coat or a faded aircraft blue but a full, strongly saturated blue with a gloss surface, the kind found on the paintwork of an aerobatic machine, the body of a racing car or large-area markings on a fuselage. That is exactly why builders keep it at hand as a mixing base: adding white produces any lighter tone, while a drop of black or brown pushes it down into dark naval territory.
This range has a whole row of blues and they differ substantially. This one is the deepest and at the same time the glossiest of them, close to a pure spectral blue. The light gray-blue tones carried on the undersides of American aircraft, the dark blue of carrier aviation and the translucent blue for navigation lights have little in common with it. When you are looking for a color for a specific camouflage, reach for a shade that carries a standard code in its name; this one is meant for places where blue is supposed to be truly blue.
This is a fast-drying nitrocellulose lacquer in a ten-milliliter bottle, not a water-thinnable acrylic paint. It is applied mainly with an airbrush and thinned with the thinner of the same brand, for which the manufacturer recommends one to two parts of paint to one part of thinner depending on the consistency. Stir the contents thoroughly before every load. The dry coat resists abrasion and takes later enamel washes and a clear overcoat without trouble.
