1:700 PLAN Type 054B Frigate QinZhou (Limited Edition)

The real subject

The Type 054B is a newer line of multirole missile frigates of the PLA Navy. It follows on from the numerous Type 054A class, compared with which it is larger and has smoother, less broken-up shaping of the superstructures. The ship carries the name QinZhou. For a modeler it is a subject that has been available only a short time, so it will not compete on a shelf with dozens of identical models.

What the kit contains

The package is an issue in a limited run. The extent of the parts, the recommended paints and the form of the markings are described in the enclosed instructions. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, so you will lay the assembly out according to whether you want to build the ship with the full hull or only with the part above the waterline.

Building and painting tips

With ships in 1:700 scale it pays to proceed from the large areas to the details: first glue and fill the hull, then paint the deck and the side, and only at the end fit the small parts. Always try the joints dry, apply the glue in a small amount and draw the excess off at once, so that it does not run across the smooth area of the side. Apply the coat in thin layers, so that the fine texture of the surface stays apparent.

Who it is for

The set is suitable for ship modelers who already have experience with small parts, and for collectors of present-day warships. The model will also serve well as the basis of a display-case assembly completed with photo-etch, which the same manufacturer issues for this frigate separately. Paints, glue and other tools are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
