A wooden load area for the model of the German SSyms heavy railway flatcar in the early version, 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The SSyms series heavy flatcars served the German railways for carrying the heaviest loads, that is above all tanks and artillery. Their load area was laid out of planks over which the vehicles drove, and it was exactly that area which took the most punishment from the tracks. Scuffed and rutted planks are among the first things you notice on a model of such a car.
The set brings a load area of real wood for the model of the SSyms car in the early version, in 1:35 scale. It replaces the smooth part from the kit, so the model gains genuine grain and the gaps between individual planks, which behave in paint the way wood is expected to. The extent of the package and the procedure for laying it are described in the enclosed manufacturer's instructions.
Try the wood dry before gluing and check that the area sits exactly into the frame of the car. Glue in a thin layer so that the planks do not warp, and weight them down until dry. You do not have to paint it; it is enough to stain it, or to use heavily thinned oil paints that soak in and let the grain come out. Apply water-based washes sparingly, as wood is absorbent and it is easy to overdo them. Suggest the marks of loading with dark stripes where the tracks ran, and add rubbing with graphite.
The set suits builders of transport dioramas who are bothered by a featureless area on a model of a car. The model of the car, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
