Wine Red is a dark red tuned toward wine, that is a shade with a perceptible proportion of blue compared with a signal red. In a gloss finish it looks saturated, and the depth of the color only comes out on a smooth surface that reflects light. On a matte base the same shade would look flatter and darker.
The typical uses are the bodies of cars and motorcycles, the painted surfaces of civil vehicles, interior trim or small red features where the gloss is meant to show. A gloss surface is at the same time a suitable base under decals: a decal settles on it over its whole area and no pale silvering forms around the edges.
The thinner and the thinning ratio follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging; use a thinner intended for this range. Stir the paint thoroughly before application, because the pigment settles to the bottom. Saturated reds generally cover less well than grays, so a lighter base coat and several light coats instead of one heavy one pay off. Wash and degrease the base beforehand. A gloss finish will mercilessly show every scratch and every joint that has not been sanded, so prepare the surface more carefully than under a matte color. Work in a well ventilated space and close the container carefully after use so that the paint does not thicken.
