Golden Yellow — a deep golden yellow in acrylic

An acrylic shade from the 3rd Generation range. Golden yellow is a warm variant of yellow shifted toward orange: it does not look as sharp as a lemon yellow and fits period color schemes and yellow markings better. The paint thins with water and is an acrylic; AK lists the same shade name in other ranges with a different chemistry, which is worth watching when you reorder.

Why the base matters with yellow

Deep, clean shades of yellow and red are among the most demanding paints on the bench: over a dark base their character is lost and the coats have to be built up. The practical solution is to lay a light base under them, ideally white or light gray, and build on that. Work in thin coats and let them dry between one another; one heavy coat floods engraved detail and shrinks as it dries. Thin the paint for an airbrush gradually and test the ratio on an offcut. Shake the bottle before every use, as the pigment settles to the bottom.
