Textured paste for an asphalt surface, 30 ml

Asphalt is a treacherous surface on a model. From a distance it looks smooth, but close up it has a coarse grainy structure that painted plastic will never imitate. A texture paste creates it directly: a thick material with solid particles is applied with a spatula and leaves relief matching a roadway once dry. A wash, oil stains and dust then catch in it, so the road looks driven on and not like a gray-painted board. The pack has a volume of 30 ml and suits figure bases as well as surfaces in a diorama.

Use

• Apply the paste with a spatula and level it; a roadway is deliberately flat compared with terrain.
• Scribe joints, cracks and traces of repairs into the fresh layer, as it can no longer be done dry.
• Leave the edges of the roadway irregular, as the edge of asphalt crumbles in practice.
• Let it dry thoroughly, as a thicker layer stays soft inside longer than it seems.
• Once dry, tint the surface with a wash and a dry brush; only then will the structure stand out.
• Wash the spatula and the brush immediately, as dried paste can no longer be got out of them.
