HVP model — modeling rubber 3x3 mm (one unit is 1 m)

Modeling rubber of square section, 3x3 mm from the Czech brand HVP model. It is a flexible rubber profile, a modeling material and not a kit. It is sold by the meter: one unit is one running meter, and you choose the length you need by the number of units in the order. A square 3x3 mm section gives an area of 9 square millimeters, which in modeling practice makes it a medium power rubber: springy, light and easy to control.

Use

• A rubber motor for free-flight models — several strands are joined into a bundle, wound up and turn the propeller.
• Flexible attachment of a wing to a fuselage on aircraft models: on a harder landing the rubber gives and saves the structure.
• Catapults and slings for launching hand-launched gliders and sailplanes.
• Flexible joints, holding parts in place, damping impact and vibration.
• A replacement for worn rubber on older models: you buy exactly as many meters as you need.

Why 3x3 mm in particular

A thinner section means less pull per strand, but at the same time less weight and greater delicacy. It suits lighter and smaller models, hand-launched gliders and smaller catapults and anywhere you want to fine-tune the pull in small steps: you simply increase the force by adding another strand to the bundle. A thinner rubber also passes more easily through small holes, eyes and hooks than a heavier section. You extend its life by storing the rubber cool and dark, away from oils and solvents, and by carefully working it a few times before stretching it fully.
