A dark green reliably swallows shape if it is not handled with the scale in mind. Dark Green FS34115 Matt is a matte acrylic paint from the Lifecolor brand with a matte degree of surface and the number of the American Federal Standard color standard in the name. It is among the shades for which the shift according to scale is the strongest of all.
We take in shape thanks to the difference between the lit and the shadowed part of a surface. With a light shade that difference is large and the eye reads the modeling without effort. With a dark green, though, the shadowed side is almost black and the lit one only slightly lighter, so the difference between them is small and the shape is lost. On a real vehicle or aircraft this problem does not arise, because the surface is enormous and carries a whole range of highlights, dust and rubbed places. A model is reduced so far that only a fraction of that survives, and a dark area shrinks into a uniform blackish-green mass. The rule therefore is that the darker the shade and the smaller the scale, the more markedly the tone needs lightening — with a dark green in 1:72 it is the largest shift you will meet in a palette. Beside that, playing up the surface itself also helps: lightened centers of areas, gently emphasized edges and keeping the shadows shallow.
For modelers of military vehicles and aircraft who need a dark green base or an element of a camouflage scheme and want to fit it to the size of their model.
