AK Light Ghost Grey (FS 36375) - a Real Colors Lacquer Shade

A modeling paint from AK Interactive of the Real Colors range. It is not a kit but a lacquer paint in a dropper bottle, intended above all for spraying with an airbrush. It is thinned with a thinner for lacquer paints, not with water. It dries quickly into a thin, hard and durable film, on which washes, filters and pigments then hold well.

Take care not to confuse the ranges: alongside Real Colors, AK also carries the acrylic (water-thinnable) 3rd Generation Acrylics range, and the shade names overlap between the two. This paint is a lacquer - different chemistry, a different thinner, different safety rules.

Use

• FS 36375 is the lighter of the pair of grays of the modern low-visibility scheme - it belongs on the undersides and the sides of the fuselage.
• Typically American combat aircraft: the F-16 (the Hill Grey scheme), the F-15 and the A-10 (the Compass Ghost scheme). Other operators of these types use the shade as well.
• You will not finish the scheme without the darker counterpart gray. The upper surfaces carry Dark Ghost Grey FS 36320 - get both paints at once, otherwise the model will stay half done.
• Do not confuse it with the shade Light Grey FS 36495. The names are confusingly similar, but it is a different shade with a different FS code and a different purpose (the undersides of naval aircraft and helicopters).
• Spray in light coats. A heavy application of lacquer can attack the surface of the plastic and an insufficiently cured acrylic or enamel layer beneath it.

Who it is for

For modelers of modern jet aircraft who want an exact FS shade straight from the bottle and work with an airbrush. Lacquer paints call for extraction and respiratory protection - they are not suited to brush building at a table in the living room.
