The color

A light gray tied to the color scheme of the MiG-29SMT aircraft, that is, the modernized form of the Soviet and Russian fighter MiG-29. Grays of this kind are low in saturation and without marked sheen, so on the large area of a fuselage and wings they read differently than they do in the bottle. Before you set about the whole model, spray a test patch on a scrap of plastic and judge it in daylight; it is precisely with light grays that the difference between artificial and daylight lighting is greatest.

Preparation and spraying

Wash and degrease the model before painting; paint will not hold on a greasy surface. Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Spray with an airbrush in several thin coats and let the surface become tacky between passes. One heavy coat floods the engraving and emphasizes every unevenness of the base, whereas thin coats preserve the detail. Choose the thinner and the cleaner from the same range and flush the airbrush out immediately after work; dried pigment is considerably harder to remove.

What the shade goes with

In contemporary schemes a light gray tends to be only one of several close tones, so prepare the layout of the areas according to the kit instructions and mask the boundaries between the fields. Apply masks to perfectly dry paint and draw them off slowly and at an angle. Under decals an intermediate layer of gloss clear proves its worth, and the degree of sheen can then be evened out with a final clear coat. Do the panel emphasis and the grime only on paint that has keyed.

The package contains the paint. The thinner, an airbrush, brushes and other aids are not included, unless stated otherwise. Work in a well-ventilated room, protect your airways and store the bottle closed and out of reach of children.
