LP-72 Mica Silver is a silver shade from Tamiya's LP modeling line. The name Mica refers to the mica pigment, which keeps the surface from looking like a flat gray-silver area and instead gives it a fine metallic sparkle that shifts with the viewing angle. The shade suits metal surfaces on equipment, accessories, and painted bodywork where the shine should be subtle rather than mirror-like.
Shades with metal pigment need more preparation than ordinary opaque paints. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, since the pigment settles to the bottom and an unstirred spray will come out uneven. Choose the thinner the manufacturer specifies for the LP line and follow the mixing ratio on the package; do not carry over habits from other lines. Apply several light coats rather than one heavy one, letting the paint flash off between them.
A metallic look stands or falls on the base. Sanding scratches, fingerprints and imperfectly smoothed filler will show through under silver paint, so unify and degrease the surface beforehand. Metallic shades are hard to apply with a brush, since strokes leave visible traces in the pigment's arrangement; an airbrush gives a more even result. Mask a dried coat carefully, since the fine sheen is easily damaged by rubbing.
Thinner, brushes and an airbrush are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
