A photo-etched detailing set in 1:48 scale for a model of the Mi-8MT transport helicopter. An accessory to a kit; the model itself is not included.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mi-8 is one of the most widespread transport helicopters of all and still serves in dozens of countries. The Mi-8MT is its upgraded variant with more powerful engines, which improved the machine's performance at higher altitudes and in heat. For export the same variant appears under the designation Mi-17. The roomy flight deck with its richly divided instrument panels is clearly visible on a model, because the glazing on this type is extensive.
The contents are photo-etched parts, that is thin flat parts etched to an exact shape. They replace plastic sections that are necessarily thicker in the mold than the scale would allow. The set is an accessory for a particular kit in 1:48 scale, not a model on its own. The extent of the parts, and which of them are replacements and which additions, are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and sand the remainder of the tab off with a fine file. Make the bends in an etch bender or between two rules, so that the edge comes out crisp. They are glued with super glue applied in a minute amount; for larger areas a thicker variety is better, as it leaves time to position the part. Degrease the parts before painting and apply a primer. Finish the interior fittings before you glue the fuselage halves together.
The set is for the modeler who wants the interior and the small external elements to be in scale. Unless stated otherwise, the kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
